I REALLY liked this book. I read it a few years ago, but Ive forgotten some of the details so I'll read this again.

I really loved this beautiful book. It is a treasure.

I loved hearing Lisa Wingate delve into the inspiration behind 'Shelterwood' with Carol Fitzgerald. Her journey into the forgotten history of Native American 'elf children' and the untold stories of the Winding Stair Mountains is both poignant and enlightening. It's wonderful to see such meaningful narratives brought to light through literature."

Loved your discussion as I spent some time in OK and am also an alumni of women's history and identify with so much you talked about. Young women need to learn what their mothers and grandmothers fought to get for them, Title IX and the rights of womanhood.

I’m reading this book with my local book club. Love it so far. Emotions are strong throughout the book. Don’t like the girlfriend. She is annoying 😂😂

As a lifetime lover of words, especially, but also books, I have never once had a book come to an end and then verbally cried out " NOooooo !!". Your engrossing novel(s) had me in tears, laughing aloud, then angry right along with the characters. Thank you for spending four long years producing this volume that will stick in my mind forever. As I child I was convinced that I was an adopted American Indian somehow and actually ducked down to the floorboards of our car when we drove through Cherokee, NC so they wouldn't reclaim me back!!😂

Loved this book, I grew up in Central Florida where Strawberry and Citrus pickers would migrate each winter. Gave me new perspective on those orange blossom memories.

What a sublime interview!

I'm so sick of hearing about what women give up when they have kids period if you can't be home with them or cherish being home and being a mother then don't have kids because the kids need you at home period loss of identity is a bunch of crap. At the end of your life, you're not gonna say g.I wish I would have worked more at the end of your life.You're gonna say?I wish I would have spent more time with my kids and building relationships and b a focused on building a decent human being

I just read wild game, and i devoured it. It is amazing, and i cant waitmto read her other books. She is a marvellous writer.

As a nurse that graduated in 1969 from a school in Virginia. We students were recruited in the last two years of school and my brothers both took different tours in Vietnam. I felt like Frankie that I should go and help the injured. I feel I could have been very good in that situation because I’m calm in a crisis and in emergencies and my school had well prepared me to take charge of any nursing unit. People I knew did know that women were over there and were not ashamed of the veterans. Reading the book I could feel Frankie’s emotions and I would have been disappointed in how the service men and women were treated on return just like her. I always regretted not going and getting married instead but after reading I’m glad I didn’t make that choice because I would have probably had depression and anger too and a whole different life. Thanks for this read that I could really relate to. Both my brothers made it back home and both were spit at and terrible things shouted at them when they stepped off the plane. Both were different people when they got back. Their physical and mental health has been greatly affected from the experience and agent Orange.

My favorite book in DECADES. Wish there were more like it. Left me weepy at the end, but in the very best way. Beauty can do that. This was a great discussion between two thoughtful, smart, caring women and I'm so glad I stumbled upon it, thank you!

I have also written a story and been accused of my story being told by ‘Me’ and my life experiences. And that is somewhat true- not intentional though. I just noticed at 12.04- hand on heart Miranda says the story had to be told from 'Me’. 14.10 Choices - Big and Small are such an important- theory/theme/idea here that I wanted to explore. The smallest choice manifests in one’s life as the hugest choices. No premeditation- the tiniest gesture. Binds them together and forces them apart. The lie that determines her relationship with both Peter and Jonas. Hand on heart again 18.38. Can I live my life with regrets? I will definitely be looking out for Miranda Cowley Heller stories again. She writes from the heart and possibly experience in my opinion. She asks such big questions!! Who do I want to be true to. What parts of myself do I want to be true to. 19.20 Can I live for myself? 19.33. Is it allowed to come down to happiness. (Whoa! Surely not! Sarcasm intended) Does it mean she’s gonna have everything she never had? Or does it mean she’s gonna lose everything she has? I loved the ending of this story. My 2c worth Peter says, ‘Are you going for your swim? I think- his last chance when she says, 'Why don’t you come with me? I hold my breath, wait. Come with me end this. He is more concerned with domestic life. Every wheeze, every grunt is within her bones. Leaving the wedding ring and the egg-yolk sun- breaks from its tethers! She breaks free and finally with the one she has loved since she was a young child. From one of the questions. Why so many F words. I barely remember reading an F word. I have so many F words in my story because I felt this is how people speak especially in shitty situations.. I found this wonderful story barely had any bad language.

This book was utterly fantastic but I was left feeling so mixed at the end. There’s so much left to feel at the end of the story. I had such mixed feelings about Peter: I felt desperately sorry for the life he could have had. Lindy too her story was just desperate! Sally’s arc was the only hope in the story but how quickly things can unravel unnerved me.

As a writer, myself, I am exceptionally particular about who I am intrigued by. Style, commonalities, and a bit of sneakiness will do it for me. I actually located this site while searching for my next Ashley Elston novel. Most books, I figure out by chapter 2 that it's a flop. And I'm talking about a good 85% of the books I even start reading. First Lie Wins -- I'm on Chapter 8 before I stop to see what the author's name is---no offense, Ashley, the book is THAT good! If you ever wanna pair up, you know who will be first in line with her hands waving wildly in the air! (Yes, me.) Anyway, I'm keeping my eyes peeled for your next one. It will be great to not need to wade through thirty more flops to hit a good one, you know? 😉
